Defender for Cloud coming into the Defender Portal

You may have noticed that cloud resources, assets, filters, and blades are starting to appear in different areas of the Defender portal. Following Microsoft’s latest video (see link below), the direction is now clear: instead of moving the existing Defender for Cloud experience from the Azure portal into Defender, Microsoft is building an entirely new experience within the Defender portal.

Below is an overview of where cloud-related resources and options can currently be found (as of 09.04.2026):

As mentioned, these features represent an initial step toward the future direction of Defender for Cloud. They do not yet replace many capabilities that still reside in the Azure portal, so switching between portals remains necessary in daily operations.

For enabling the experience in the XDR portal, make sure you configured these settings:

  • Under System, Settings, Microsoft Defender XDR, Preview features: Enable preview features and tick the box for Microsoft Defender for Cloud

  • In Exposure Management, Data connectors: Tick the connector Microsoft Defender for Cloud
